Great Book

I could not put the book down. I loved it.  It was completely a young adult novel and a little predictable at times but I was hooked from the start.  If anyone else has finished it let me know.

New Books

I think we should choose a new book to discuss or discuss a variety of books that we are currently reading. It seems like we don't have much to say about Breaking Dawn anymore, so we need some new material. I recently finished the Friday Night Knitting Club and loved it, if anyone wants to borrow it. I am always up for new reading material, so if anyone has suggestions, please post them.

Breaking Dawn

Breaking Dawn was released at 12am Aug 2.

This was the fist release party for me and it was definitely and interesting experience.  We went to Borders and I hate to say it but I think that they did a crappy job putting the party on.  I heard rumors that Barnes & Noble did a better job with the before party.  Luckily for everyone that was there (Lola, Stephanie, Ruth, Riann, Andrea, Kerri, Jordan) there were plenty of people to watch and wonder "what in the world are they thinking?"  Most of the people there were teenage girls with VERY high pitched voices.  WOW.  There was a debate that I missed but others informed me that it was a little strange in that they asked obvious questions that don't really need to be debated.  An example was "Do you think that Bella is using Edward for his money?"  What?  I've never even heard anyone bring that up as an issue.  There was a palm reader there and I went over to listen in for a minute and it was funny.  She was examining the love, life and health lines.  Not an exact science I would say.  I looked at my hand after taking note of a few things and I realized that some of my lines don't exist.  Weird.  I'm sure she'd think of something though if I'd given her the chance.

The t-shirt contest was funny because there were a few different ideas going on.  We received a lot of attention for ours and I'm pretty sure that we would have won had it been up to the judges and not a bunch of high pitched screaming teenage girls.
This is the front of the shirt...
This is the back of the shirt...
Then there was a costume contest... most people were dressed up goth or they were dressed as vampires.  Not actually like the kind of vampires you'd think the Cullens were but bloody sharp teethed caped monsters.  I'm not sure that after reading the book they got the picture right in their heads.

All in all it was fun and the actual getting of the books was so fast that I was very impressed by Borders in that department.  I think my next book release party I'm going to pre-order from Borders then go to the party at Barnes & Noble then go to Borders just before the release and pick up the book there.

He hasn't met the right girl...

I think that it depends on who is the werewolf in the situation when it comes to imprinting.  It's the werewolf that seems to imprint on the other.  It would be convenient though if there could be a fair number of male and female werewolves that way they could just imprint on each other and not drag humans into it.

I started reading the first book over the weekend while driving to CA and I'd forgotten how much I fell in love with Edward.  It's cute how he couldn't keep himself away from Bella even though he knew getting her involved with the vampire world was a bad idea.  I think I just got really mad at him when he left her and have yet to forgive him for it.  I know that he came back and all but I'm just not over it yet.  I think I'll probably be in love with him for the next 300 pages but no guarantees when I get to the second book and he leaves.

I think that Jasper's power does have a more physical effect on people even though it is him getting into people's head.  Maybe it isn't though maybe it is all physical and not mental and that is why Bella is effected.  We are talking about vampires here people so anything is possible.  LOL.  I would really like to see her be able to do something really cool like control people physically with her mind... you know like throw them around a little or whatever else she may need to do.
I disagree-Jasper's power is to calm people's emotions and emotions are definitely an aspect of the mind. I do agree that Jasper's powers help physically calm Bella, but he can definitely impact all the stress and anxiety that is hindering her mental ability, as well. I wish that we knew more about the vampires before they were vampires; this would definitely give us a better idea of the similarities between the before and after.

As far as imprinting goes, Jacob could imprint on someone at any time, if he hasn't imprinted on Bella. I wish that I understood the whole imprinting concept better; will Jacob really be happy with the person that he imprints on since he is in love with Bella? Does imprinting automatically mean that the two people fall in love with each other? Can a girl imprint on a boy or does the boy always imprint on a girl?

The effect of vampire powers on Bella

Bella is not affected by the powers that affect people through the mind. Edward can listen to people's thoughts :that's the mind, so it doesn't work with Bella. The Volturi girl (I can't remember her name off the top of my head), she tortures people by making them think about horrible things: once again, the mind. Jasper's power is more physical, not mental, that's why he can calm Bella. Does that make sense?
